Is it ok if I use HYDROCORTISONE cream on my lip?

It was prescribed by a skin specialist but the tube says %26quot;FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY%26quot; I m confused.|||This answer primarily depends on the area of your body that you were originally prescribed this Hydrocortisone cream and how strong it is. Usually there is a number and then % behind the brand name. If this prescription was not originally prescribed for any place on your face, then I would call the doctor%26#039;s office back or your local pharmacist and ask if you can use the cream on your lip. I%26#039;m saying this because my family and I have all been prescribed some sort of Cortisone (steroid) cream at one time or another. Our doctor told us not to use certain cortisone creams (because of the strength) on any thin-skinned areas, for instance, the skin around our eyes because the skin that is underneath and surrounding the eye is really thin. Cortisone has the potential of making that skin even thinner. So, if this cream was not specifically prescribed for your face or lips, then definitely ask first before using it there. If this is what it was prescribed for, then use it on the outside of your lips, but do not put any on the inside of your lips because many types of cortisone medicines are NOT meant to apply inside your mouth, ears, etc. Our types of Hydrocortisone creams and ointments were prescribed for specific areas of the body, i.e., for dry, underarm itchiness (sensitivity or reactions to certain drying antiperspirants) or areas on our legs or hands. Not all types of Hydrocortisone are safe for use on facial areas. There are certain types of cortisones that are safe for you to use on your face or lips, but this may not be one of them. %26quot;For External Use Only%26quot; means don%26#039;t use a Q-Tip and apply it inside an itchy ear, up your nasal passages, or inside your mouth on a sore, for instance. Well, I may have given you too much information, but I do hope that it is of some help to you! :)|||yes it%26#039;s fine. Just don%26#039;t use a lot of it and don%26#039;t lick your lips or anything to get it inside your mouth.|||I am sure it wouldn%26#039;t hurt the skin on your lips, but you might eat some.

So i wouldn%26#039;t do it.

Also the skin on your lips are more sensitive then the skin on your hands etc...|||http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Dermatolog鈥?/a>|||It%26#039;s ok as long as you don%26#039;t get it in your mouth. Try vaseline if you are really uncomfortable using the hydrocortisone.
