Is it okay to use hydrocortisone cream on my dog?

I have a pit bull and all she does is scratch the same spots over and over again. We tried to shampoo her with the medicine that the vet gave us but it isn%26#039;t working. Please help!|||In small areas yes, my vet has directed me to do so.|||yes, you can use it, just make sure she doesn%26#039;t lick it off.|||You can try and it might help a little. Call your vet and find out how much oral benadryl you can give her for her weight. That seems to work better for itchy, allergic dogs.

Take a good hard look at what you are feeding her and consider a food formulated for allergic dogs. I feed California Natural, which is human grade and contains no fillers, only ingredients that are less likely to trigger allergies. We also do biweekly baths in our house. Finally, flea control using Frontline or Advantage is a must because just one flea can set off a lot of itching.|||NO! Never use products intended for human use on an animal unless instructed by a vet. Petsmart and Petco have anti-itch creams made for dogs and cats. You should try a bath with a pet Shampoo containing Oatmeal first to try and ease the itch.|||What kind of shampoo? Mite shampoo? Steroids wouldn%26#039;t help that.

Hydrocorisone is a corticosteroid and can be absorbed through the skin. So if it is just a small area like a quarter it%26#039;s ok. But don%26#039;t put it on large areas of the skin or all over the body. You will depress the adrenal glands if you put too much on the dog.

If this were my dog, I would see what the shanpoo the vet prescribed was for, the exact diagnosis, and then use a similar product.|||I had the same problem with my cat. I used a hydrocortisone spray that is made specifically for cats and dogs and it did the trick. Look at a local pet supply store. They should have hydrocortisone products that will stop your dogs itching and not harm your pet.|||I got some off the vet for my dog when he was doing that.|||I have a link that has things on it that dogs should not go near.

http://animal.discovery.com/guides/dogs/鈥?/a>|||Get an aloe vera plant and apply the clear gel on her skin and she how that works. Its safe and natural and is often used to reduce or eliminate bed sores off of the eldery or invalids. So why not for your poor dog.|||It%26#039;s okay but make sure you wipe the area clean after a few hours and don%26#039;t use it for more than three days. Hydrocorisone is a steroid and can cause increased bacterial growth where the dead bacteria lay. This causes even higher numbers of bacteria to attack the location. Within three days the area should be cleared of any hystamine causing agents. If it continues then you need to re-consult with your vet.|||i have had problems with my foster dogs scratching and the vet would always tell me to buy benadryll over the counter but not the kind that has other medication in it. in regards to the cortisone cream the vet also told me to be very careful when choosing over the counter products that are meant for humans for animals because the weight to drug ratio has to be analized and there is ofter other chemicals in the drug that the dog or cat cannot tolerate. so ask you vet first. and if you don%26#039;t have a vet. just call the nearest vet office, I%26#039;m sure they would be happy to answer a few questions from you.|||Here is a link you can check out on that
